Welcome Back!
As girls arrive we will have them use scratch sticks to write down some things they’d like to do as Brownies on these butterflies:
We will hang the butterflies up on our rule tree as girls finish them. Once all girls arrive (6:10-6:15) we will stand and gather around the Brownie Rule Tree to say the pledge of allegiance, girl scout promise, and quickly go over our rules.
Making Friends
We are going to be earning our “making friend” badge. We will start by asking the girls questions:
What makes someone a good friend?
Have you ever gone to a party and not known anyone there? How did that feel? What did you do?
Or have you ever gone to a party and noticed that another girl doesn’t know anyone? What could you do in that situation?
Next we will break the girls up into pairs. Girls should be paired with someone who they do not know that well (no bestie pairs!) Each pair will do these two activities together.
Activity 1: Introduce yourself!
Practice introducing yourself, say your name and tell your new friend something they don’t know about you.
Ask your partner a question to learn more about them, and listen to their answer. Like what do they do for fun?
Two pairs of partners should take turns introducing each other to other pairs. Leaders will help!
Activity 2: Name Poem
Write your partner’s name vertically down the side of a piece of paper
Then, beginning with each letter of the friend’s name, write something nice about that friend. Something they do well, or one of the reasons they are a good friend.
Investiture Ceremony
For the last 15 minutes, we will have girls take a flower (each has a number) then sit or stand in a horse-shoe shape around the back table. We will call girls up by their number, and the read the card tied to the flower. (They will be reading the girl scout law), and place their flower into one vase.
Then we will call each girl up one at a time, starting with our new member Carmella. Carmi will be getting her Brownie membership pin and making friends badge. All other girls will get to the table to receive her Brownie pin that represents their first full year as a Brownie.
We will end the meeting with the friendship circle and song.
