As girls arrive, we’ll have an Outdoor Art Creator word search.
Once all girls arrive, we’ll say the pledge of allegiance and the girl scout promise.
Meeting Rules
After the girl scout promise we will gather girls to sit on the rug.
We plan to go over Brownie meeting rules with the girls (respect the space, respect each other, respect the leaders)
We’ll ask girls if they have any other ideas that will keep us safe
At the end of the chat we’ll explain the first activity to earn our Outdoor Art Creator patch: leaf art!
Craft: Leaf Rubbings
Have you ever really looked at a leaf? Look closely. What do you see? It has veins, a stern, and it’s own unique shape. It’s like nature made it’s own work of art.
To prepare for this activity we will ask girls to gather a few whole leaves they find in their yard before the meeting.
We will pass out sheets of paper and crayons.
We’ll demonstrate how to make a leaf rubbing by laying a leaf on a peace of paper, laying another piece of paper on top, then gently rubbing a crayon over the paper until the leaf’s features appear.
Ask brownies: What art could you make with your leaf rubbings?
Show examples of things they can do with their leaf rubbings (cut them out and put them on a card, for example.)
Craft: Leaf Creature Art
If there is time for another craft, or if some girls finish the leaf rubbing activity early…
Materials: leaves, glue, paper, black pens, googly eyes
Girls can choose leaves to glue down on their paper, then add legs, arms, and eyes to give their characters life.
We’ll end the meeting by cleaning up and the Brownie friendship circle.
